Window to the Past: Round Toll Church and smith’s forge

The Round Toll and Methodist Church c1930.Bryce Howatt’s blacksmith’s forge is on the left.

To the right in Cross Street opposite the end of Shawbridge Street, there is a glimpse of a horse and cart with bags of coal.

Rising up from the cart’s tailboard and lying at an angle is the metal plate on a spike with the prices silhouetted against the dark face of the Jubilee building.
