Glasgow is a city that is still tied to the nineties, as the old Travis song goes. It was a decade that set the scene for local pop culture and established the city as a place for creative people.
We asked our readers “What bars, restaurants, cafes and nightclubs do you think of when you think of Glasgow in the 1990s?” As ever, Glaswegians did not disappoint as people got back telling us about their favourite spots.
17. Sub Club
Sub Club is a world renowned electronic music venue which was a popular spot for Glaswegians to head to during the 1990s. The dancefloor would always be crammed and the club established Glasgow as a important city for dance music. Optimo played on Sundays. | Getty Images
18. The Arches
The Arches was a much-loved arts venue underneath Central Station. Club nights began back in 1992 and Slam was one of the most popular nights of all, with plenty of 90s techno and electronic music. The clubs late licence was revoked in 2015 and it went into administration shortly after. It's now home to street food and events venue, Platform. Photo: John Devlin
19. Tin Pan Alley
Tin Pan Alley was a short walk from The Tunnell on Mitchell Street. The nightclub opened its doors in 1989 and it was the place to be to hear the new sounds coming from Belgium and Detroit. | Google Maps
