Irn-Bru launches World Cup advert with Susan Boyle and John McGinn

Irn-Bru has scored the ultimate anthem after debuting an unlikely squad of Susan Boyle, John McGinn, Alex Kapranos, Paul Black and 71-year-old viral sensation May Miller lined-up with a full team of roaring fans.

We’re Made in Scotland from Girders is a rousing reimagining of the 1980s advert and a thunderous rallying cry for the Tartan Army. It captures the quirks of the fan experience this summer, following supporters as they navigate what the summer might throw at them - all while defiantly singing their way through it.

The hilarious, tongue-in-cheek anthem leans into everything from eye-watering ticket prices, getting into the USA, late nights and even America’s infamous tipping culture - showing that whether on the pitch or in the stands we’re Made from Girders.

Alongside a super-sized chorus - the track also features a show-stopping Susan Boyle bridge section, introduced by Scotland legend John McGinn, belted out on top of the iconic Forth Bridge - before cutting to her breakdancing to a crowd.

Susan Boyle said: “I never thought I’d be belting out an anthem on top of a bridge or breakdancing but it just goes to show that anything’s possible when you’re Made in Scotland from Girders.

“It’s been brilliant fun, a bit bonkers but in the best way. The anthem is for the fans and everyone loudly showing their support - carrying the roar of a nation with them, from the first kick to the final whistle.”

Other stars include Franz Ferdinand frontman, Alex Kapranos, who tears through a blistering guitar solo, and viral Scottish comedian Paul Black, delivering his own hilarious take on the baffling quirks of American culture awaiting travelling fans.

The track and accompanying music video also features five passionate fans recruited through a one-of-a-kind karaoke casting event overseen by another of the advert’s stars, singing sensation May Miller - all appearing in their first ever commercial.

The latest instalment in a rich heritage of IRN-BRU sport campaigns, We’re Made in Scotland from Girders follows the team and supporters on their remarkable journey to this national moment. It embraces the quirks they’ll face along the way and their dogged, Girders determination

Kenny Nicholson, Director of Brand at IRN-BRU said: “Scotland fans have experienced it all during the last 28 years - the true definition of being Made from Girders.

“This moment is decades in the making and this anthem is a rallying cry for the fans. It celebrates what it means to be a supporter. We can’t wait to hear it being bellowed out as they follow the action this summer - whether that’s watching home or away.”

Shot across some of Glasgow’s most iconic backdrops before spotlighting the scenic shores of Loch Lomond - the song launched on Irn-Bru’s social channels today and will be available to stream on Spotify tomorrow.
