Local East End bingo player scoops £50,000 jackpot at Glasgow Forge
In an almost unheard of twist of fate, two lucky Scottish bingo players both won amazing £50,000 jackpots on the same game at Mecca Bingo clubs in Dundee and Glasgow
In a spooky stroke of luck, both players won big playing on the National Bingo Game during the same Sunday 6 October evening session.
Mecca’s director of Bingo, Mike Sime, added; “We’re always delighted for our winners, but to get two £50,000 jackpot wins on the same game, playing 80 miles apart, is incredible!”
Lucky Lorraine Scullin, who is a regular at the Mecca Bingo on the Eclipse Leisure Park in Dundee, hit the fabulous jackpot by matching all the numbers on her ticket and claiming ‘house’ within the first 16 numbers being called. Lorraine now plans to share her winnings with her family and will be celebrating her win with an overdue luxurious break away.
Bingo fan Lorraine, who started playing with her Mum when she was 19, commented: “Bingo is so much fun and everyone is so friendly. It was so exciting, I’ve never won anything like this before in my life. I was initially in shock; I just couldn’t believe it. Everyone has been so kind since the win, even people you don’t know will come up and congratulate you, and it really highlighted the amazing community of people I play bingo with.”
At the same moment that Lorraine struck lucky, another player also completed a ‘full house’ in under 16 calls, triggering another £50,000 jackpot at Mecca’s Glasgow Forge club. The Glasgow winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is known to regularly meet up with her friends at the Parkhead bingo club and is also believed to be organising a holiday with her winnings.
The Forge’s win marks the fifth big National Bingo Game jackpot win in the Glasgow area this year: one £125k jackpot at Mecca Paisley, two £50k wins at Mecca Drumchapel, plus two £50k wins at Mecca Glasgow Forge – the last being in August – making it one of Mecca’s luckiest regions.
Mecca Glasgow Forge caller, Isobel Spencer, described the moment that the jackpot landed: “I saw the claim come in and announced that £50,000 had been won! The winner was in total shock as she didn’t realise that she’d triggered the jackpot and had to go outside for some fresh air”.
“I’m just delighted for the customer. It’s a brilliant feeling to announce that size of win. I’ve been working here for over 27 years, and I still get excited!”
