Clarkston is a suburb of Glasgow in the town of East Renfrewshire and has a population of around 10,000.
After a new road was built through the area in the 1790s to connect Paisley and East Kilbride, a man named John Clark built a house at the new toll which lead to the town being named Clarkston.
It has played its part in contributing famous faces to East Renfrewshire as it has produced one of the finest Scottish guitarists of all time.
We also need to give a mention to Scottish novelist Alistiar MacLean who is a former resident of the area. MacLean is known for his books The Guns of Navarone and Ice Station Zebra.
Here are some of the famous faces who grew up in Clarkston.
