Greenock is a historic industrial town by the Firth of Clyde which is located around 25 miles away from the west of Glasgow.
The town grew from a fishing community to become the site of the first dock on the Clyde in 1711. Many impressive buildings of that time still exist in the town till this day.
It has produced many famous faces who have contributed significantly to Scottish life and beyond as the town can claim to have been home to actors, musicians and engineers.
Here are nine famous faces who once called Greenock home.
1. Martin Compston

2. Lena Zavaroni
Scottish singer Lena Zavaroni became a huge star at the age of 10 when she appeared on the TV talent show 'Opportunity Knocks' in 1974. She was born in Greenock but grew up in the town of Rothesay. | YPN
3. James Watt
James Watt was born in Greenock and showed an interest in engineering and invention from an early age. He made great improvements to the steam engine, one of the most significant being the separate condenser, which saved fuel and time. In 1774 Watt went into partnership with Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) the Birmingham manufacturer and entrepreneur, building steam engines to power mills, factories and mines. 4. Chic Murray
