Peter Pan: I saw this year's Christmas pantomime at the King's Theatre - it's a spectacular

A special performance last night marked the 60th year of the Christmas pantomime at Glasgow’s King’s Theatre with a high-flying pantomime that represented the best of local entertainment traditions.

Elaine C Smith reunites with Johnny Mac at the King’s Theatre in a festive family panto treat that is packed full of songs, dancing, dazzling displays and costumes alongside a tried and tested seasonal helping of Glasgow humour. Last night’s show marked 60 years of panto at The King’s - this year’s show continues that well established local tradition of family entertainment.

Elaine C Smith as Mrs Smee and Johnny Mac as Smee do much of the heavy lifting through family friendly set pieces, alongside Darren Brownlie as Tink who adds to the comedy and belts out some songs to punctuate the lightly sketched plot that keeps the energy levels high. Visually, its an impressive spectacle and there are plenty of laughs for the parents along with the kids.

Peter Pan adds some impressive special effects to a magical trip to Neverland with a strong Glasgow accent. Local famous faces in the audience for last night’s gala performance included Greg Hemphill, Michelle McManus, Julie Wilson Nimmo, Gavin Mitchell, Sanjeev Kohli and Tony Roper.

Peter Pan is at the King’s Theatre until 5 January, tickets available here.
