Glasgow sprang up from just eight mediaeval streets to a sprawling city packed with culture, food, innovation, absorbing varied neighbourhoods and communities
No two streets in the city are the same and each bring their own character to Glasgow, be it Buchanan Street’s shopping, top class restaurants on Great Western Road or the cultural impact of streets like Byres Road.
Take a look at our list of the city’s most famous streets, known far beyond the confines of Glasgow.

5. Great Western Road
Dubbed one of the the UK's coolest streets, Great Western Road is known for some top class restaurants - such as Michelin-starred Cail Bruich - as much as it's known for it's pubs such as the Hug and Pint. The street also hosts Glasgow's Botanic Gardens | Hudson Martins

6. Park Circus
Forming the focal point of Glasgow's Park District, Park Circus has a number of impressive townhouses surrounding a private garden. For much of the 1990's until 2013, Park Circus was also the site of Glasgow's registrar office. | Rightmove

7. Castle Street
Home to the oldest building in Glasgow - Glasgow Cathedral - the street has also been at the forefront of modern medicine at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Innovations such as antisepsis and diagnostic ulrasound techniques were discovered at the GRI, whilst the now ubiquitous practice of doctors wearing white coats was also introduced at the site. | Google Maps

8. Byres Road
Byres Road is one of the city's coolest streets, with venues such as Oran Mor and the nearby Ashton Lane. The street is also home to a number of murals by Glasgow writer and artist Alasdair Gray, including at Hillhead Subway station. | Google Maps
