Biggar locals object to takeaway, near Cadger’s Brig

ANGRY residents in Biggar have lodged objections to plans for a kebab takeaway in the town, stating that it will make a dangerous traffic area even worse.

And they are concerned about the effects of the takeaway on the town’s heritage, as the premises are only feet from Cadger’s Brig and the war memorial.

“I cannot think of a worse location for a fast food takeaway,” one objector told South Lanarkshire Council.

Nine letters of objection have been lodged to the plan by Mr U Koca to turn the former hairdresser’s shop at 7 Park Place into a takeaway.

Objectors point out that The Wynd is at right angles to Park Place, with the proposed takeaway at the corner.

There are only three designated parking places in Park Place, already used by residents and customers of a Chinese restaurant.

The Wynd itself has no pavement for most of its length.

“A fast food establishment is totally unsuitable,” said Bill Stott who contacted the Gazette. He is based at 8 The Wynd, directly opposite the shop.

“Apart from the many anti-social aspects of operating a fast food establishment – smell, noise, no car parking, hours of operation – the nature of the area will be devalued aesthetically.”
