Cumbernauld B&Q spared axe

Following months of uncertainty, DIY giant B&Q has stated it has no intention to close its store in Cumbernauld.

In March the company revealed it would shut down 60 of its branches across the UK, but last week a statement from the company confirmed the Cumbernauld branch would be spared for the time being.

A B&Q spokesperson said: “We have let colleagues at our Cumbernauld store know that their store is not one of the stores planned for closure this financial year.”

B&Q’s parent company Kingfisher announced the store closures on March 31, as its annual profits had dropped by 7.5 per cent to £675 million, following a fall in sales of 1.4 per cent to £11 billion.

B&Q is the fourth largest DIY retailer in the world, and the market leader in both the UK and China.
