In recognition of his long years of dedicated service, customer Tina Murray set up a special Go Fund me page to buy a gift for the much loved local businessman.

So far, generous villagers have collected more than £700.

People have been adding their comments to the page, including Neil and Jacqueline McCaig who said: “Happy retirement to you all, you
so deserve it! Every good wish.”

Customer Laura-Jane Gelston told the Herald: “Mr Gahier has given so much to the local community, helped out vulnerable families and those in need (very privately).

“He will be sadly missed by everyone.”
