Hundreds of jobs at risk as DHL plans to close depots

Hundreds of jobs are at risk as deliveries firm DHL announced plans to close 10 of its depots, including the one in Bellshill.

The firm’s DHL Freight UK wing is currently in consultation with workers, with the GMB union believing as many as 520 jobs could be lost across the country.

DHL blamed low volumes of work and plunging revenues during 2016 for this action.

Mick Rix, GMB National Officer, said: “The constant false hopes, tinkering and change in direction of the business has contributed to the lack of customer confidence, which in turn has led to a loss of business.

“I am sure most staff will not thank the company for the worst Christmas present ever.”
