Meet the Cumbernauld star of a national daily newspaper calendar

A cherished Golden Retriever from Cumbernauld is set to be one of 12 stars of a new calendar next year, after winning a public vote.

Cuddlesome Cash from Kildrum will be one of several pooches to feature in the 2012 calendar put together by The Daily Star and Blue Cross.

Backed by celebrities including Bill Bailey and Michaela Strachan, all profits from sales will go towards supporting Blue Cross at a time it is expecting to see a spike in pet abandonments.

This is due to the changes in people’s financial situations and comes after the charity reported a 515% increase in demand to re-home pets in May 2020 in relation to the same period last year.

Blue Cross CEO Chris Burghes said: “We saw a huge amount of entries from Daily Star readers to get their pets into this fun calendar so it is a wonderful achievement for Cash to be included.

“It’s another fantastic way for animal-lovers to support Blue Cross at a time when we are expecting to be helping more pets than ever before. We know what a tough time it’s been for so many people recently and hopefully this calendar will give people something to enjoy at the end of a difficult year.”

Cash’s proud owner Arlene Campbell said: “We waited almost two years to find Cash and was told during lockdown he was born and would be ours.

“He kept our spirits high, our home messy and our hearts full during a difficult few months of lock down. We can’t imagine life without our golden boy.”
