Construction is to get under way after Edinburgh University won consent from North Lanarkshire Council to proceed with the plan.

Incorporating an equipment store and on-site facilities, the design was judged to be acceptable for the site without negatively affecting the character of the park.

Operated by the university boat club, which already trains at the park, the facility has been commissioned to promote the sport within the university and bolster the competitiveness of the team.

Loader and Monteith Architects stated on Facebook: “We’re thrilled to announce the approval of planning for the new rowing centre at Strathclyde Park, on which we are working with Harley Haddow, David Adamson and Bergmark Architects.

“We cannot wait to see this project move on site later this year.”
