Suzie and Dylan are a cut above the rest

Two stylists from a Glasgow salon have been named as top hairdressers for 2017 at this year's British Hairdressing Awards.

Suzie McGill and Dylan Brittain of Rainbow Room International – which has a salon in Clarkston – are just one of just six finalists for Scottish Hairdresser of the Year 2017 and just one of six finalists for Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year 2017.

The overall winner for these hotly contested categories will be announced at the prestigious ceremony which takes place in London in November.

This iconic competition requires hairdressing professionals and artistic teams from across the country to create a photographic collection, initially of four images that showcase their creativity and technical ability.

These collections are displayed in a gallery for judging by more than 50 of the industry’s greatest hairdressers, all of who are experts in their field.

Suzie McGill of Rainbow Room International said: “To be a finalist for two categories is an amazing feeling – to be considered amongst the best in the industry is incredible.

She added: “I hope our next set of images are just as strong and it’s Dylan and I’s name that’s called out on the night.”

Jayne Lewis Orr, Hairdressers Journal International’s executive director, said: “The awards remain true to the original objective – to promote the professionalism and leading vision of British hairdressing, and importantly to celebrate its contribution to the wider world.

“I am so proud that we can see the impact that the awards have had on not only our own industry, but also upon partnership industries of model agencies, photographers, clothes stylists and make-up artists and its success is shared by many.

She continued: “This year more than ever, we encouraged entrants to produce work that’s aspirational and wearable, to really unify the bonds between creative hairdressing and the fact that this industry contributes £7bn to the national economy and employs 500,000 nationwide.

“Now that’s something amazing to celebrate!”

Now in its fourth decade, the British Hairdressing Awards hosted by Hairdressers Journal International has been supported since its inception by Schwarzkopf Professional.
