Top man Reece ‘overwhelmed’ at honour

It’s a week on from the area’s major business awards, but Cumbernauld man Reece Tham is still getting used to the fact that he’s “the best”.

Reece, 21, of Eastfield, was named Lanarkshire’s Apprentice of the Year at a glittering awards ceremony hosted by comedian Fred MacAulay.

Cumbernauld-based security firm TS-UK nominated Reece for the top title, and he beat more than 30 hopefuls to take home the trophy.

The former St Maurice’s High pupil is in the second year of a three-year Modern Apprenticeship in electronic fire and security systems, and is a day release student at New College Lanarkshire.

Reece said: “I’m so honoured to have won, and I feel completely overwhelmed.

“My family, my work colleagues and my boss have all been a huge support.

“My mum and dad especially have taught me that I need to apply myself 100 per cent to everything that I do.

“I’d really like to thank the panel who thought I deserved to win.”

Four years ago Reece joined TS-UK, which specialises in electro-mechanical locks, as an Xtra Hands apprentice – and now bosses say he’s “a vital part of the engineering team”.
