Weir given Queen’s award

A SOUTHSIDE firm has won the Queen’s Aware for Enterprise.

A section of the Weir Group – Weir MineralsEurope – has been granted the award in recognition of the significant growth it has achieved in international trade over the past six years.

More than 90 per cent of Weir Minerals Europe’s revenue comes from overseas sales, and the business serves customers in more than 20 countries – including many of the world’s biggest mining and industrial companies.

I an an attempt to enhance it’s contact with customers the length and breadth of Europe, Weir Minerals has recently put in heavy investment in its service presence, launching new service centres in Poland, Scandinavia, Hungary, Spain, Benelux, Ukraine, Germany and Turkey.

The group’s subsidiary has also upgraded its production facilities at its English base in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, which dates back to 1893, with a £5 million expansion to increase capacity, improve efficiency, reduce lead time to customers and create employment opportunities.
