Banton school celebrates a top-class report

PUPILS, teachers and parents of Banton Primary gathered to celebrate being sent to the top of the class.

A glowing report was delivered by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education following a visit to the Lammerknowes Road school.

Many areas of the set-up were singled out for praise, including the partnership between parents and teachers and the head teacher’s leadership in creating “better learning experiences”.

Head teacher Louise Duncan said: “Everyone associated with the school is delighted with our report.

“I thank all the pupils, parents, staff and the community who have worked extremely hard to ensure Banton Primary provides a high quality education and is a great place to be.”

Inspectors also positively identified the school’s confident and responsible pupils and went on to describe the use of outdoor areas to enhance learning as ‘outstanding’.

Mrs Duncan continued: “All in all, there were six strengths identified by the inspectors and we are proud that they saw us as a school that is sector leading in outdoor learning.

“We have been developing our outdoor learning provision over the last three years and, with a £10,000 Awards for All grant, have created allotment areas, a woodland garden, a trim-trail, a playhouse for context learning and an outdoor classroom.”

Mrs Duncan added: “We attract a number of children from outwith the village and we have a high number of placing requests.

“As we are a small rural school there are always places available and we make children welcome through our very positive, caring and supportive ethos.”

Mark Griffin, Kilsyth councillor and MSP for Central Scotland, said: “This latest HMI report was exemplary and everyone at the school deserves a great deal of credit for their achievement.”
