Eaglesham teen scoops top student award

Tutors at the Glasgow-based UK Theatre School named Violet, 11, as the recipient of the school’s annual Junior Acting and Performance Student of the Year. They cited Violet’s “exceptionally focused efforts” over the past 12 months.

Violet received her plaque and certificate at the UKTS’s annual prize-giving ceremony which recognises their Students of the Year in various age groups and categories.

Violet who will begin Mearns Castle High School after the summer break has been a student at the UKTS for five and a half years, admitted she was “shocked but extremely happy” and explained: “I had been nominated before for an award to it means even more to win it this year.

“Since joining theatre I have learned so many skills to do with performing. I’m looking forward to moving up to participate in the school’s main shows and being part of that cast.”

As well as excelling in her UKTS course work in the last year, Violet has participated in a number of the school’s productions and performances.

Violet’s father David said: “The UKTS has become an integral and increasingly important part of Violet’s life. She has become more confident and absolutely loves performing and the friends made at the school.”

UKTS principal Lizanne Lambie Thomson described Violet as “a very committed young talent” and added: “Our tutors see Violet as having an extremely focused commitment to her performing arts training. Violet’s enthusiasm knows no limits and she is a deserving winner of this special award.

“Our focus is on helping develop young students who show an interest in the performing arts. Our team of experienced tutors help students like Violet to focus on how best to fulfil their ambitions of becoming immersed in the performing arts world.”

UK Theatre School which is based in Glasgow’s West Regent Street and has around 700 students on its roll offers performing arts courses for students aged from between three and 18. The school has charity status, which allows it to also offer support for any underprivileged youngsters who show potential talent.
