THE final death sentence on a small but much-loved Clydesdale rural school is set to be passed next month, the Gazette can reveal.

The almost inevitable vote by South Lanarkshire Council on November 6 to finally axe Crawfordjohn Primary School will be a “gross betrayal” of our rural area, according to village councillor Bev Gauld.

He said: “I carried out a survey of the local residents and 75 per cent of them said they wanted to keep the school.

“This is a gross betrayal of rural Clydesdale after all the promises we were given that Hamilton really cared about mainatining the ‘wee schools’ in the rural area.”
