Giffnock school among those with latest confirmed cases of Covid-19

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has confirmed that coronavirus cases have been identified at another three new schools in the area, including one in Giffnock.

The latest cases have been identified Braidbar Primary, St Aloysius’ College in Glasgow and Johnstone High.

The health board said contact tracing is being carried out but stressed there is no evidence of transmission within the schools.

This follows last week’s announcements of Covid-19 cases associated with Holy Cross Primary in Govanhill, Hutchesons’ Grammar, Corpus Christi Primary in Knightswood, St Anthony’s Primary in Johnstone and Lochend Community High in Glasgow.

Greater Glasgow and Clyde has accounted for the most new cases in Scotland over the seven days up to Saturday (September 5) with 92 positive tests from the region.

In total Scotland has recorded 208 new coronavirus cases over that period, the highest daily increase in positive tests for more than 17 weeks, although there were no deaths.

The is currently 1079 confirmed infections north of the border, as of Saturday there were four people with the virus in intensive care - up from two on Friday - although the total number in hospital has fallen by six to 245.

Due to the rise in cases restrictions remain in place in Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire council areas.
