From Monday, November 7 applications will be available for those starting school next year and will close Friday, November 11, at midnight.
Any child who will reach the age of five years-old between March 1, 2023 and February 28, 2024 is eligible to start school in August next year.
The process was moved to almost 100% online a few years ago to make the form as quick and easy as possible for parents and carers to access and allow them to do this from the comfort of their own homes and at a time that suits.
Councillor Christina Cannon, city convener for education, communities and equalities, knows that this is an important milestone in a child’s life and can be very emotional as well.
Councillor Cannon said: “We know that families will have been looking forward and anxious at this point in equal measures as their child reaches the age to enrol for primary school.
“But with many of our children now enjoying 1140hrs of early learning and childcare in nurseries across the city from the age of three, moving on up to primary school is the natural transition for our youngest citizens.
“Our schools and school staff are well versed in creating a nurturing and welcoming environment to allow children to flourish in the next step of their learning journey.”
Parents and carers can of course choose to defer their child under new legislation and should speak to their nursery staff for details but should still register their child until they receive confirmation of their application to defer entry to primary 1.
All information relating to starting school can be found on the council’s website at https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=18007 with general information on school enrolment, including enrolling a child from overseas at https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=18426
While online applications are quick and easy, families can also request a paper copy by contacting the local authority on 0141 287 8000.
