For the past 10 years the Malawi Committee at St Maurice’s High has been taking groups of pupils out to Africa to do volunteer work.

Over that decade donations have helped provide water storage tanks and water pumps, basic classroom resources and ICT facilities to secondary schools, a scholarship fund, an electricity supply and learning equipment to primary schools and improved care facilities at a hospital.

More recently a new school bus was donated which will allow teachers to take pupils out on field trips and let them experience life outside of their rural community.

The committee work on various fundraisers throughout the year including the annual Malawi Ball being held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on May 11.

Tickets for the car raffle cost £10, with the winner being announced at the ball.
