Lanark Grammar motto language row continues

That question has been asked as the row over the motto for Lanark Grammar School looks set to rumble on into the summer of 2014.

Last year the Gazette reported how some pupils were left feeling unfairly treated when their suggestion that the new motto be in Latin was rejected by the senior staff.

The Gazette approached the education authority, South Lanarkshire Council, this week for an update.

A spokeswoman said: “The school continues to work through the pupil council to identify a school motto.

“The initial plan is to have completed this by spring break or early in the summer term.”

Two former school pupils approached the Gazette to express their dismay at the ongoing dispute.

Claire Seenan of 13 Wheatlandside, Lanark and Kathleen Bradley of 14 Nemphlathill, Lanark, issued a joint statement saying: “We would like to express our concerns that the opinions of the students, who have been elected to represent their tutor groups, are not being treated as valid.”
