With Covid-19 cases on the rise once again the mum, who doesn’t wish to be named, wanted to keep her children safe at home.

However, North Lanarkshire Council only has arrangements in place for work to be sent home to youngsters who’ve been told to isolate due to Track and Trace or other health issues.

As such the mum has reluctantly now had to send her children back to classroom.

She said: “I chose to keep my children off due to a rise in positive cases and was told no work would be issued.

“It’s unacceptable, we are being made to feel bad for not sending the children to school and for choosing to keep them safe. Now we have no choice but to send them back!”

A council spokesperson said: “Head teachers and educational leaders continue to link with families to alleviate concerns and support children to return to school at their earliest convenience.

“Clearly, the legal and educational expectation is that wherever possible the child should attend their school as normal.

“Where a pupil is required to self-isolate, then a suite of schoolwork will be provided to be undertaken at home, but if they’re absent for any other reason, then there is no obligation.

“We ensure all pupils and families are made aware of educational resources they can access in the home environment.”
