Reasons to be cheerful —lots of them for youngsters

KIDS in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth should have no reason to be bored throughout these Easter holidays.

North Lanarkshire Council’s Sport and Outdoor Education department have arranged an action packed programme to suit all ages and interests.

The activities on offer give children access to top quality coaching, the chance to try new things and, above all, to have great fun and make new friends.

The Football Development team are providing a programme of high quality coaching in Cumbernauld for boys and girls of all abilities.

Active Schools have organised multi-sports programmes throughout the local authority area which allow children to try a different sport each day including basketball, rugby, handball, gymnastics, parkour, street dance and much more.

Sports Development will run a Young Leaders Award camp which will enable aspiring coaches to develop their skills and also gain new qualifications.

Free swimming will be available to all youngsters under the age of 16, between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday each week, at both the Tryst and Kilsyth Swimming Pool.

Kids Klubs will run at Broadwood, the Tryst and Kilsyth Swimming Pool, offering children between the ages of 5 and 12 the chance to try a range of diverse activities, including badminton, general play, racquet sports, handball, basketball, dancing, creative activities, giant games, parachute games, face painting, obstacles courses, water and outdoor activities and plenty more. and many more. Places in these clubs can be booked by calling the individual centres directly - Broadwood on 01236 856262, the Tryst on 01236 728138 and Kilsyth Swimming Pool on 01236 828166.

Finally there will be dance sessions held at Airdrie Academy for children with additional support needs.

The activities are taking place in venues across North Lanarkshire for children in primary one to secondary six from Monday, April 4, to Friday, April 8, and Monday, April 11, to Friday, April 15.
