Ahead of the schools going back East Dunbartonshire Council had the grass football pitch at Meadowburn Primary dug up to be replaced with an artificial surface.

The process involved in this has allegedly left nearby cars and houses covered is some kind of substance which could lead to repairs needed.

Linda Maxwell, who lives next to the school, said: “I and many others in Bishopbriggs have been affected by this.

“Many people have health issues and cars and houses have a substance left on them that will have to be professionally cleaned. Who decides this is safe, especially during a pandemic?

“My house backs on to Meadowburn Primary School. The grass football pitch was dug up and the area prepared for an artificial surface.

“After the initial prep then two days of spraying exactly what no one will tell me. However it seemed to be rubberised adhesive and paint mixture.

“I don’t know if this is suitable in a residential area. My house and garden is yards away from this. I don’t know if it’s safe in a pandemic!”

Council depute chief executive Thomas Glen said people should have been informed of this work in advance, and that any property damage would be rectified at no cost to residents.

He said: “Residents who have been affected during this work should have been contacted by our contractor.

“They have been speaking with local people about any paint damage to property to ensure it is put right and costs are covered.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and would like to reassure residents that we are continuing to monitor the situation with our contractor.

“A risk assessment was carried out and all work was carried out in accordance with safety guidelines.”
