Scottish Conservative plan to recruit 3,000 teachers could lead to 78 more teachers for schools in East Renfrewshire

In East Renfrewshire, this would result in the employment of 78 new teachers in local schools.

The plans which would cost £550 million, would end teacher shortages that have arisen since the SNP came into power in 2007.

As part of the Scottish Conservative education proposals, the party have also called for a dedicated STEM teacher to be available in every primary school, increased opportunities for career switchers to move into teaching and a new campaign to encourage the best and brightest to take up teaching.

Jackson Carlaw MSP for Eastwood said: “Under the SNP, teacher numbers in Scotland have plummeted with one in thirty posts gone since 2007.

“Scottish Conservative plans to recruit 3,000 teachers would entirely remove this shortfall.

“In East Renfrewshire, this could mean the recruitment of an additional 78 teachers across the council area and further enhance our excellent set of local schools in Eastwood.

“Scotland has continued to be divided over the past six years in the period since the September 2014 independence referendum.

“It’s vital now for the nation to come together so we can spend the next six years rebuilding Scotland and focusing on the issues that really matter such as the education of our young people”.
