Westerton Care home’s heartfelt thanks to school pupils

Carers and residents at Westerton Care Home have said a heartfelt thanks to Bearsden Academy for providing them with protective masks.

The pupils at the design and technical department at the school dropped off 10 masks to the care home last week.

We revealed in last week’s Herald how the school stepped in to help by using their 3D printer to make the masks. There is an ongoing battle for Personal Protective Equipment for health workers on the front line.

A member of staff at the local care home posted on a community Facebook page: “On behalf of the management team at Westerton Care Home, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the kids at the design and tech
department of Bearsden Academy for making and delivering 10 school made visors for us, in case we need them.

“Thank you for looking
after us, as care home front line key workers.”

She added: “When this is all over and we are opened again, come and see us for a coffee and a cake!”

Scottish Greens MSP Ross Greer, who lives in Bearsden, last week praised the efforts of the local school, and lodged a parliamentary motion to
congratulate them.

Joint leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, Councillor Andrew Polson, added: “I can’t praise Bearsden Academy enough for stepping up to the plate to make these masks to protect health service workers and reduce the spread of Covid-19. It’s a fantastic example of how communities really do pull together during these most difficult of times.”
