Charity investment to transform cancer support in East Renfrewshire

People affected by cancer in East Renfrewshire will soon have access to a range of new cancer support services on their doorstep.

Macmillan Cancer Support is working in partnership with East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure to provide much needed support services for people affected by cancer.

The charity is investing around £347,000 to develop a range of services across East Renfrewshire to ensure people have the support they need locally, from information and emotional support to help with money worries and getting active. Macmillan’s Head of Services in Scotland, Janice Preston said: “Cancer affects every area of people’s lives which is why we need to provide people with a range of services to support people. Being able to access services locally is also vital and we are delighted to be working with East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure to deliver this.

“It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of our supporters in East Renfrewshire who raise so much money for us that we are able to introduce such vital services and we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support”.

Anthony McReavy from East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure said: “Our Macmillan East Ren Cancer Support project will provide such a valuable service to our local community when it launches this summer.

“We’re now looking for volunteers who can help take this forward and would love to hear from people who can dedicate some time and make a real difference to people affected by cancer. Training will be provided and roles will be based locally.
