East Dunbartonshire leisure centres reopen

On your marks, get set ... go! East Dunbartonshire’s leisure centres will reopen to the public from Monday,
September 14 with new
arrangements in place to
ensure the safety of
customers and colleagues.

People will be able to return to Kirkintilloch, Leisuredrome and Allander Leisure Centres to enjoy facilities such as: Gyms (physically distanced); Main swimming pools (laned and with limited numbers); Group exercise classes (physically distanced).

East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust has put a number of measures in place to ensure safety, including physical distancing, use of face coverings (when not exercising), signs and floor markings, hand-sanitising stations, additional cleaning and more.

Councillor Andrew Polson, Joint Council Leader, said: “It has been a challenge to plan the reopening of our leisure centres against the backdrop of COVID-19 and the ever-evolving issues presented by the pandemic. The new measures at all three facilities will help to ensure the safety of customers and EDLC colleagues - which must take precedence at all times.”

Councillor Vaughan Moody, Joint Council Leader, added: “Physical activity is a priority for many people - and to be encouraged - but that must be balanced with the ongoing need for vigilance in the fight against coronavirus. Well done to everyone involved in helping to reopen our facilities. We will continue to assess arrangements in the coming days and weeks.”

Please note, all of EDLC’s children’s teaching pools remain closed for the time being.
