Red alert as East Dunbartonshire engulfed in Covid hotspots

East Dunbartonshire is engulfed in Covid-19 hotspots as the virus continues to rise.

This Public Health Scotland map charting the virus shows the majority of the area is shaded in dark red, which means there are more than 100 cases per 100,000 people.

Only three areas have a low number - Kessington East in Bearsden, Barloch at Milngavie and Kirkintilloch South.

The area as a whole has been placed in level three in the new five-tier Scottish system, which is similar to current restrictions, apart from some easing for hospitality. This will come into effect next week.

The newest figures show Auchinairn has been the hardest hit, with 37 positive cases over the past seven days.

The lowest number of cases presently is Kirkintilloch South which is shaded in light blue, meaning it has between 15 and 29 positive cases per 100,000 people.

While Kessington East and Barloch are in darker blue, with 30 to 49 cases per 100,000 people.

This latest data given this morning was up to October 26.

Parents have been warned against taking their children door-to-door guising for Hallowe’en this weekend with fears this will lead to a further increase in cases.
