The giving won’t stop as caring Motherwell group helps more families at Christmas

A determined community-driven effort, which saw more than  £12,000 raised after two houses were set ablaze by a stray firework on November 5, has now reached its natural conclusion.

The incident which drew national headlines, saw two families left without a home in Motherwell’s Corrie Drive.
Caring North Motherwell Community Group rallied with  goods in kind and online crowdfunding.

And it has now been confirmed that the money has been split equally between both homes, making prospects for Christmas that bit brighter for the devastated families who saw their homes go up in smoke.

Organiser Scott Symington said: “They were also given nearly £400 in cash collected from the buckets  put into some local shops.

“The families were amazed at the levels of generosity.”

Yet the group is not content to stop there in its quest to make the festive season better for vulnerable people.

And that is because moves are already afoot to start collecting both foodstuffs and toiletries for their local foodbank.

And the group is asking our readers to get involved in the effort at a point where so many are fighting their own battles against the challenges thrown up by the coronavirus.

Scott added: “It’s just to give a helping hand to those folks who struggle a bit more than the rest of us.

“Let’s show folks the caring side of the Northies once again!

“Parks of Hamilton director Willie Cumming has kindly agreed to provide a free two-day van hire to distribute the goods – if you don’t ask you don’t get!”
