Greg and Monty have one heck of a challenge ahead of them

Greig Muir, alongside his trusty companion Monty the Cocker Spaniel, is tackling a tough 314 miles (506 kilometres) this year to raise funds for children and young people at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children (RHSC).

His charity challenge is raising funds for Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) – the official charity of the RHSC. Greig was made aware of the work of the charity this year when a 10-year-old family member was diagnosed with liver cancer and needed a transplant, resulting in a prolonged stay in hospital.

Greig will cover the full distance by running 10 kilometres a week, every week of 2021. In just two months, he is well on his way to smashing his target of £1200, having already raised over 60%.

He said: “Unfortunately, there have been some complications with our young family member’s liver transplant and he is still in hospital. I know how much ECHC has supported him and his family during this hard time and I felt I wanted to do something to give back.

“The constant running will take its toll on my old legs. However, just knowing what some kids go through each day will keep me going.

“ECHC has done amazing work through the toughest year imaginable. All charities have suffered this past year with a fall in donations due to the pandemic and I really feel I want to do all I can to assist this charity.”
