Milngavie: New walk-through Covid test centre opens today (Friday)

A new Covid-19 walk-through testing centre is due to open in Milngavie today (Friday, May 14).

The testing centre at Milngavie Rail Station car park brings the number of walk-through sites in Scotland up to 48.

The aim is to improve the accessibility of coronavirus testing for local communities.

It will be run by the UK Government which provides around two thirds of all daily tests .

Scotland also has eight drive-through testing sites and 42 mobile units plus the Glasgow Lighthouse Lab which is working round the clock to process samples.

Tests for the new walk-through centre at Milngavie must be booked in advance at: www.nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect or by calling 0800 028 2816.

People should only book a test if they have coronavirus symptoms (a high temperature, a new and continuous cough, or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste) or have been instructed to do so by a clinician or NHS contact tracer.

Lateral Flow Test Kits are now available for pick up without an appointment at the majority of local walk-in or drive-through test sites from 3.30pm each day.
