Council boss Thomas Glen said: “Kirkintilloch Canal Festival is a flagship event in the local calendar for residents, visitors, organisations and businesses, so the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 celebration was not taken lightly.
“However, given the worldwide COVID-19 emergency, pressing priorities and ongoing uncertainty, it has been impossible to continue the huge amount of preparation required for such a major event.
