Acts sought for charity CD

The Bernard Iliff Children’s Dream Trip of a Lifetime charity are preparing a CD for Christmas packed with Scottish talent to raise funds and awareness of their work.

The organisation was set up by Sandy Smith, a former Cumbernauld music scene regular, after the story of young boy Bernard Iliff tugged public heartstrings several years ago.

Bernard was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, neuroblastoma, which effects around 100 children in the UK every year.

The tot managed to survive the illness and Sandy decided to start his charity to both raise awareness of the disease and to help other children suffering life threatening diseases to have a better chance of living their life to the full.

Now he is looking for local acts to get involved in his fund raising campaign to help other children like Bernard.

Sandy said: “We’re hoping to take children away to Lapland next year for their Christmas.

“We want to put a CD together with bands and solo singers that could donate one of their tracks to help us raise money.

“Edward Reid has already said he would go for it.

“Everything we do we do ourselves. One hundred per cent of the money goes directly to the kids we support. We would like the CD to be out by Christmas and we’ve already taken over 100 orders.”

Sandy is now hoping that the Cumbernauld community may remember him from his days as a roadie for a number of local bands and will take it upon themselves to get involved.

He added: “We’re also looking for outlets to sell the CD once its ready.

“We’re looking for professionally recorded tracks that we can just put on and hopefully we get a good response.”
