Steam engine fanatic Chris Vine, who is the author of the Peter’s Railway children’s books, is encouraging families to explore the heritage of Britain’s steam railways through The Great Train Railway Treasure Hunt – with £1000 worth of prizes.

The idea is to visit steam railways throughout the country, answering questions on the way.

Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway is one preserved railway inviting families to hop on board the Great Railway Treasure Hunt.

Originally built to transport lead to central Scotland, visitors can work their way through the questionnaire while discovering four historic industrial steam engines and enjoying a relaxed scenic journey between Leadhills and Wanlockhead, two of Scotland’s highest villages.
