Artist gives Festival crowds the Biggar picture

AN artist from the Biggar area who was born in Essex with a Welsh surname and has a love of France is about to have an exhibition of paintings of Spain staged at the Edinburgh Festival.

It is probably safe to say that Douglas Davies is one of the most cosmopolitan citizens of the wee hamlet of Skirling, where he has lived and worked for thirty years.

When not painting stretches of his beloved local countryside, he is to be found depicting the very different landscapes of Catalonia or Brittany.

Indeed, he combines two of his favourite locations into one show when ‘Shades of Spain and Tones of the River Tweed’ opens at Edinburgh’s Dundas Street Gallery on Friday, an exhibition which runs through to Saturday, August 23 as part of the Festival arts programme.
