Band drums up cash

KILSYTH Thistle Pipe Band thanks everyone who helped them raise an impressive £600 in last Friday’s charity “pub crawl”.

Musicians did a tour of the town’s drinking establishments and entertained patrons in exchange for donations.

Secretary Stephen Kinving said: “We’re very pleased with this result, the money will be very handy as it costs quite a bit to keep a band like ours running. We’d also like to thank all the local pubs for allowing us to visit their premises.”

The band will soon observe an old Kilsyth tradition, the Drums and Whistles. This will see the band assemble at the former Kilsyth Police Station shortly after midnight on December 31 for a march around the Balmalloch area.

“We’ve been doing this for at least a hundred years and we’re proud to keep this tradition alive,” said Stephen. The band is also booked for Hogmanay at Cameron House.
