Biggar pub's wheely good way to raise charity funds

Staff and customers of the Fleming Arms in Biggar took to the saddle to raise money for charity.

Around 30 people took turns to ride for 30 minutes over 12 hours on two static bikes outside the pub; they cycled a total of 700 miles, raising £2,760 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Proprietors, Ian and Fiona Gibson said: “It was a novel way to raise money for Macmillan and the local community really got involved.

“Thank you to everyone who supported the virtual static cycle especially the Fleming Arms cyclists.

“This is the second year of the event and we hope to do it all again next year”.

Angela McCormack, Area Fundraising Manager for Macmillan, who received the cheque afterwards from Ian and Fiona, said “I would like to thank Ian and Fiona for kindly organising the event in aid of Macmillan and to all the cyclists who took part helping to raise this tremendous amount.

“The money raised will be used to help local people affected by cancer in Lanarkshire”.
