Bubble-tastic family fun run is first for Scotland

A hospice is inviting people to take part in a family run with a difference to help it raise much-needed cash.

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is offering the chance to be the first to experience the ‘Bubble Rush’.

Coming to Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, on May 29, the event for all ages follows a course that is less than 5K and filled with masses and masses of bubbles.

This is the first time what promises to be an entertaining event has been staged in Scotland.

Open to all ages, the whole family can get involved. The course is not timed so take as long as you like to complete the challenge - run, walk or jog through the frothing bubbles to get to the finish line.

Along the route, high-powered bubble stations will shoot out coloured foam, blowing a massive 30 cubic metres a minute of froth. All you need to do is dive in.

Bubble runners are invited to dress up for the occasion: wear tutus, sunglasses, wigs and wings.

The hospice, based in Carlton Place on the banks of the River Clyde, has £4 million to raise to reach the £21 million target to build a new facility in Bellahouston Park.

The foundations go down this summer for the new build and patients will move in 2018.

The state-of-the art building will have 16 en-suite bedrooms, allowing privacy and comfort for patients and families. Rooms will have space for loved ones to stay overnight and eat together, enjoying the comforts of a home from home.

The new bespoke designed hospice will also look after teenagers with life-limiting illnesses in specially designed, age-appropriate patient bedrooms. Special facilities include a lounge where they can spend time with their friends, play music and relax in a comfortable environment.

There will be lush outdoor gardens with quiet contemplation areas, plus a sensory room.

“Bubble Rush has really caught the imagination of people, it promises to be a fabulous day,” says Caroline Watson, education and challenges fundraiser at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.

“We are very excited to be bringing the first Bubble Rush to Scotland, we know it is going to be a great day and full of fun.

“The event also has a special link with our new build. Not only is it being held in Bellahouston Park, the home of Glasgow’s new hospice, it is open to all ages and when we move we will expand our services to include young people.
