Budding Bishopbriggs movie mogul Lauren strikes BAFTA gold with her production debut

Lauren Lamarr (29), from Bishopbriggs, was part of the team who created ‘Lost Serenity’, which tells the story of a young girl trapped on a dying earth.

At the recent New Talent BAFTAs, the showcase for Scotland’s rising creative stars, the film won two awards - best director of photography for Alan McLaughlin and best sound design for Ana Irina Roman - at a glittering ceremony at Glasgow’s Oran Mor venue.

The ambitious project was filmed in the freezing cold of the Scottish winter early last year and presented the former Turnbull High School pupil with a unique set of challenges.

Lauren, who studied television and film production at the University of the West of Scotland, explained: “People always tell you not to work with children or animals, but we had a cast of kids, a dog, and some snow thrown in for good measure - but that is all part of the challenge, and what makes the film unique.

“There was real enthusiasm and excitement from the cast and crew, and this spurred us all on, even when things were getting tough.”

She added: “Being a producer is mainly about logistical stuff but when you are working on a film of this size with practically no budget you have to do a bit of everything and just keep on top of it all.”

It’s just the latest achievement for Lauren, who has acted in a series of independent films, as well as Scottish soap River City.

She’s also Executive Editor of Scottish Fashion Magazine POSED and is a regular performer at Scottish burlesque show Club Noir - which has played to thousands of fans, from T in the Park to the Edinburgh Fringe.

And she recently landed a job at award-winning production company The Comedy Unit, whose hits include Still Game and Limmy’s Show.

Now she’s hoping that her film’s BAFTA triumph could lead to even greater things.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard we’d been nominated for the BAFTAs and we were absolutely delighted to win both - particularly since we were up against so much talent, including feature film.

“I’ve got quite a lot of other projects in development, including shooting a vampire movie in June, so hopefully having the BAFTA on my CV will open a few doors and mean we can get more money for our films.”
