Butterfly writer Patrick Barkham visits Biggar

ACCLAIMED writer Patrick Barkham will visit Clydesdale this month to promote his latest book about butterflies.

Patrick, who will be appearing at Atkinson-Pryce Bookshop in Biggar on Wednesday, May 25, travelled across the length and breadth of the British Isles to find the 59 different species of butterflies that light up the summertime.

The result is the Butterfly Isles, released to critical acclaim.

Chris McCosh, from Atkinson-Pryce, said: “Patrick is held in very high esteem in the literary world having wrote for the Guardian and other newspapers.

“The Butterfly Isles is beautifully written and the time and effort put into writing the book is remarkable.

“He is a very good speaker and we’re delighted that he’s agreed to do a small event in the shop.”

The talk begins at 7.30pm.

Patrick was born in 1975 in Norfolk and was educated at Cambridge University. A features writer for the Guardian, he has reported on everything from the Iraq War to spa holidays for men.

From the tops of trees in London to the bottom of dark bogs in Scotland Patrick investigated different species of butterfly.
