The shop, which was opened by a hearty band of St John’s Church members on February 27, 1993, has raised a staggering £427,000 over the years – with the cash being split between the town’s Street Level project, Christian Aid and many other local and national charities.

At the celebrations, the cake was ceremoniously cut by long time volunteers Mary Ramage and Jean Shields.

Volunteer Iris Nelson said: “Choices has developed over the years beyond all expectations.”
