Chris Taylor, signed up for the gruelling challenge which took place from July 5-8 at Brecon Beacons.

In 2016, Chris’ dad was diagnosed with aggressive Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – it was stage 4 (the highest level), so he needed treatment right away so was in the hospital the next day.

Chris fundraised for CRUK due to the amazing help and support he and his entire family received.

Chris took part as a six-strong team.

“The event features eight different stages,” Chris explained. “There’s phsyical aspects such as cycling and running, but there is also strategy parts and orienteering. The challenge took place in South Wales, and the views were amazing, but the weather was fantastic which meant it was really hot! It did make things quite hard going.”

It would come as no surprise that an event such as the UK Challenge takes a lot of careful preparation.

“A local orienteering club took us through the basics which helped a lot,” Chris said. “One thing I would say about the UK Challenge is that it is intense, but it’s definitely worth it. At the last count, we had raised more than £7000, which is just fantastic. I’m so pleased.”

Chris was one of the many ScottishPower employees doing their part to raise money for CRUK.

ScottishPower launched a charity partnership with Cancer Research UK in 2012 with the aim of raising £5 million over three years to help beat cancer sooner and has now raised more than £15 million for Cancer Research UK in just five years.

ScottishPower has pledged just to support CRUK for another three years until 2021.
