Christmas Market starts Lanark’s festive fun

LANARK’S High Street will be choc-a-bloc from 9am to 5pm this Saturday as this year’s Christmas Market takes place, with more stalls than ever before.

This unique specialist market, which has been running for more than 10 years, sees the town centre transformed into a festive shopping centre for the whole day.

The town’s Christmas lights will be switched on just before 5pm, with South Lanarkshire Provost Eileen Logan being joined on stage by Santa.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s enterprise services committee, Councillor Chris Thompson, said: “I hope as many people as possible will come along and help us celebrate what has become a hugely successful and enjoyable local event.

“There is a real family atmosphere in the town during the switch-on celebrations and there is something for everyone to enjoy.

“Hopefully the amount of people who turn up will also have a beneficial effect for local businesses.”

This year the market will have almost 80 stalls filling the whole of the closed off High Street and selling a wide range of crafts, specialist gifs, food and drink, many new to the event.
