College to host a range of job courses

Cumbernauld College is to host a range of courses aimed at preparing people for work.

Working with Skills Development Scotland, Cumbernauld College will begin the courses in July.

The courses, which range from three to 13 weeks, have been split into three levels, each catering to different stages of previous education.

A recruitment day will be held on Monday, July 1, between 2pm to 4pm at the Cumbernauld Campus, which will provide further information for prospective students.

Heather Urquhart, acting principal at Cumbernauld College, said: “In a very competitive job market, it’s important that everyone is given the opportunity to develop and enhance their employability skills.

“We are thrilled to be running these courses through the Employability Fund and in partnership with Skills Development Scotland.”

All 16, 17 and 18 year olds, who are not in receipt of Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits, will be entitled to a £55 per week training allowance. For others, a DWP Training Allowance or College Bursary may be payable.

To apply for the courses, students must be aged between 16 and 17 and not in education or employment, aged between 18 and 24 and unemployed for a maximum of nine months, or aged 25 or over and have been unemployed for three to 12 months.
