Cumbernauld mum and son sang at Tall Ships event

Lynn Robertson and her son Greg, who both live in Condorrat, are members of the Poprock choir which performed on the main stage, in a concert which also featured Lulu and the Magic Numbers.

Lynn and Greg have been in Poprock for almost a year and the choir performs an up-to-date repertoire combining various music genres including pop, rock, funk, soul gospel, jazz and R’n’B. Greg said “The choir had an absolute ball and the whole event was good fun.

“It’s great to be able to perform in such a great choir, and with my mum, which is a bonus.

“My sister Kay normally sings with us too. Hopefully we will be invited back to the next race event.”

Added Susan McMahon of Poprock Choir: “Poprock Choir is a choir for adults of all ages, covering pop, rock, gospel, musical theatre and much more.

“There is no scary audition, and there is no need to read music. It’s just good fun!

“The next term starts in September and new members are welcome.”

More than 110,000 visitors attended the weekend Tall Ships event at James Watt Dock and Inchgreen Quay, which offered the chance to climb aboard the beautiful vessels used in the race, including the Christian Radich which won the Class A competition.

What’s more, sunscreen was more in evidence than umbrellas for once and visitors also enjoyed a fireworks display.

Race Two in the Tall Ships season is from Shetland to Stavanger, Norway, from July 28-31.
