Dig out the vinyl and record player

MUSIC geeks of Glasgow, unite — because it’s only Record Store Day tomorrow (April 20).

The annual, global celebration of independent music retailers has been on the go since 2007, with special releases made available in celebration and gigs galore happening both in the US, where it all began, as well as further afield — all the way over to Glasgow, in fact.

The city doesn’t disappoint this year, with muso favourites Monorail and LOVEmusic putting on a show for their dedicated fanbase.

Last year, Monorail invited Edwyn Collins along, as well as Malcolm Middleton in the guise of Human Don’t Be Angry, and a host of other live performers – on top of a few choice special releases.

They’re keeping quiet on this year’s billing, but promise a variety of secret special guests performing from 11am onwards.

Over at LOVEmusic, on Dundas Street, the special guest isn’t such a mystery, as Glasgow rockers Glasvegas perform an intimate show.

The group will play at 5pm, fresh from a stint in Edinburgh, at Avalanche, from 2.30pm.

Best of all, both events are free – which leaves more cash for those rare find records and must-have purchases.
